Preposition Practice Worksheets

Prepositions of Time AT - ON - IN Worksheet to practise the use of prepositions of time; at, on, in. Concept checking exercises, phrase and sentence completion.

We use prepositions before pronouns and nouns to show their relationship. In general, the 3 types of prepositions are location/place, time and movement.

  • First, prepositions of place shows where an object is located.
  • Second, prepositions of time describes when something occurs.
  • Finally, prepositions of movement relates the direction between two things.

For example, the ball is on the chair. In this sentence, the word “on” is a preposition of place because it describes where the ball is.

If you want to practice these concepts, we have 5 preposition worksheets to help you get started. For all our worksheets, they are 100% free to use in a classroom or for educational purposes.

1 Prepositions of Place Worksheet

Prepositions of place describe the location of an object. For example, is the object under, on top, next to, behind or in front?

In this prepositions of place worksheet, students have to write a sentence to describe location. For example, they can use the words “on”, “around”, “out of” to describe location.

In addition to the worksheet, teachers will have to provide a separate table to write on.

2 Prepositions of Movement Worksheet

In this prepositions of movement worksheet, students can practice the various ways how prepositions connect with the movement of objects.

For example, we use words like onto, out of, into, toward, off, over, through, away from, under, up and down. These are prepositions of movement because they express the flow and direction for each preposition.

First, students speak for each prepositions of movement. Next, students have to write a complete sentence and draw objects if needed.

3 Prepositions of Time Worksheet

We use prepositions of time (in, at and on) for the various aspects of time. For example, we use the words “in”, “at” and “on” for month, year, seasons, specific times, places and days of the week.

In this prepositions of time worksheet, we practice when to use “in”, “at” and “on”. To clarify, students have to circle the correct word for all prepositions of time.

4 Prepositions of Location Worksheet

Prepositions of place describe the location of an object. For example, is the object under, on top, next to, behind or in front?

In this preposition practice worksheet, students practice prepositions by writing down the location of the ball in each scene.

Where is the apple in relation to the box(es)?

5 Drawing Preposition Game

In the preposition game, students draw prepositions according to their position. For example, if the grapes are on the table, they have to draw the fruit in that position.

For prepositions of place, this activity focuses on “where”. But instead they have to draw each preposition of location.

5 Preposition Worksheets

These introductory preposition worksheets help students get acquainted with the topic. Just like all our activities, they are free to use for any purpose.

Not to mention, you can alter the preposition exercises to fit your type of class you like to teach. For example, instead of drawing on a paper, you can use a real chair and ball.

Volunteers can move the ball according to the prepositions.
