GarageBand Jam Pack: Symphony Orchestra; GarageBand Jam Pack: World Music; GarageBand Jam Pack: Voices; There was also another GarageBand Jam Pack, initially known just as GarageBand Jam Pack, later GarageBand Jam Pack 1, which Apple discontinued in January 2006. Beginning with the release of the Remix Tools and Rhythm Section Jam Packs, each.
The Jam Packs need to be installed by an installer - they do three things:
- Install additional loops in the loop library
- Update the loop index
- Install instruments in the Instruments Library.
What JamPack do you want to install? Some of the installers do no longer run on Mac OS X 10.7 or later, for the installers contain PowerPC appliclations.
If you have Jam Pack loops, add them to the System Library in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple
see: GarageBand, Logic: Where loops get installed
I have the following folders there:
Apple Loops for GarageBand | Jam Pack Symphony Orchestra |
Jam Pack 1 | Jam Pack Voices |
Jam Pack Remix Tools | Jam Pack World Music |
Jam Pack Rhythm Section | iLife Sound Effects |
The instruments need to be copied to
/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library
You should see these folders there:
Plug-In Settings | Sampler | Track Settings |
After installing rebuild the Loop Index: Rebuilding the Loop Index in GarageBand
To get all JamPacks installed on Mt. Lion, the easiest solution would be to buy Mainstage 2 from the AppStore - this will install all five JamPacks, so that they can be used with GarageBand or Logic. The price for Mainstage is much lower than the price for a single JamPack used to be.
